Role Overview
As a chat volunteer, you will engage with youth facing a variety of challenges, including depression, anxiety, bullying, family rejection, and thoughts of self-harm. Through respectful and non-judgmental interactions, you will provide emotional support, crisis intervention, and resources to help them navigate their experiences. This role is crucial in fostering a sense of safety and belonging for young people in our community.
Responsibilities
- Engage with LGBTQ youth through online chat, offering emotional support and active listening.
- Utilize crisis intervention techniques to de-escalate situations and provide immediate support.
- Identify and assess the needs of chat participants, providing appropriate resources and referrals.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards and guidelines.
- Complete required training and engage in ongoing professional development opportunities.
- Document interactions appropriately to ensure quality and consistent support.
Qualifications

- Must be 18 years or older.
- Excellent communication skills, especially in written form.

- Ability to remain calm and supportive in high-stress situations.
- Previous experience in mental health support, counseling, or related fields is a plus.

- Willingness to commit to a minimum number of hours each month, including evenings and weekends.
